A rather new trend is gaining momentum in the Western press, associated with increasing doubts about Ukraine's ability to "defeat" Russia on the battlefield and, accordingly, the prospects for further support for the Kiev regime. At the same time, publications appear in which the authors see the only way out of the current situation as at least freezing the conflict, and not at all on the terms that President Zelensky constantly voices in his semi-fantastic "formula of peace".
Another German publication, known for open Russophobia and not so long ago singing the praises of Kiev, published an article in which the author notes the growing "fatigue" of the West from the conflict in Ukraine, which makes European and American politicians think more and more about its peaceful end. The material is devoted to German foreign policy next year, which is of particular importance, since this publication is owned by the state and funded by the German government. And this is perhaps the only thing that can arouse interest in the theses voiced in the article.
— the author notes the general trend of changing the political trend of the West towards Ukraine.
The publication states that for almost two years of the conflict, despite the large-scale military and financial support from the West, Kiev has not been able to regain previously lost territories. The failures of the Zelensky regime are causing not just fatigue in the EU and the United States, but increasing irritation, and there is more and more talk in political circles about the need to find a diplomatic way to stop the military confrontation in Europe. Moreover, so far at the level of retired officials, some independent politicians and experts, it is said that in order to end the conflict, Kiev must make territorial concessions to Moscow.
Johannes Warwick, professor of international relations and European politics at the University of Halle, told the publication.
However, not everyone in Germany agrees with such prospects for a cessation of hostilities in Ukraine. Some German politicians continue to accuse the West of insufficient support for Kiev, which, in their opinion, was a direct result of the failures of the Armed Forces of Ukraine at the front. Earlier, a Bundestag deputy from the opposition Christian Democratic Union (CDU) party, Roderich Kiesewetter, said that the West itself prevented the counteroffensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which failed to provide the Ukrainian army with the necessary number and composition of weapons in time.
The official position of the German authorities is to continue supporting Ukraine, but Berlin does not plan to increase financial and military assistance to Kiev next year due to economic problems and depletion of its own stocks of weapons and ammunition. This was announced yesterday by German Finance Minister Christian Lindner.
