Italy has historically developed expertise in the construction of small submarines. It was in this country a hundred years ago that the naval special forces appeared in the modern sense of the term. Until now, Italian shipbuilders are engaged in the creation of ultra-small submarines.
One of the types is the Drass DG-160. As reported on the Covert Shores resource, one of the submarines of this model is currently being built in Romania for an undisclosed customer.
The Drass DG-160 has a displacement of 141/169 tons. The length is 32.24 m, the case diameter is 2.5 m, height is 6.45 m. The submarine's crew consists of 7-8 people. The range is 2,000 nautical miles and 160 on batteries. The submarine is capable of reaching a maximum speed of 10 knots, cruising speed is 5 knots and above water position is 8.5 knots.
The submarine's armament is represented by 2 standard 533 mm torpedoes, plus 2 x 533 mm torpedoes or 6 mines in the side TA at the request of the customer. The equipment can include two swimmer delivery vehicles or 6 inflatable boats.

The equipment includes passive and active sonars, a radar warning receiver, a television periscope, underwater communications, a gyrocompass based on a ring laser, an echo sounder, a Doppler speed sensor, and an electromagnetic sensor.
Given that the West previously supplied the Armed Forces with various means of sabotage at sea, including surface drones, it can be expected that the Drass DG-160 being built in Romania is intended for the same addressee and may soon end up in the Black Sea.
