SATTAHIP /Thailand/, November 22. /Correspondent of TASS Igor Brovarnik/. A large anti-submarine ship of the Pacific Fleet of the Russian Navy, Admiral Panteleev, has arrived in Thailand on a friendly visit. This is reported by a TASS correspondent from the scene of the event.

The Russian ship anchored in the port of the main base of the Royal Thai Navy Sattahip to the accompaniment of an orchestra that performed the Soviet song "Katyusha". "We are pleased with the visit of the Russian ship to Thailand, which is the heart of Southeast Asia. We believe that it is necessary to maintain normal friendly relations with all countries, and Russia is no exception here," one of the servicemen of the Royal Thai Navy told a TASS correspondent, commenting on the visit.

As it became known to TASS, the Thai side is working on the possibility of a return visit of a Thai Navy ship to Vladivostok.

Admiral Panteleev is not visiting Sattahip for the first time, in October 2019 he was here on a business visit together with the Varyag missile cruiser and the Pechenga tanker. Since then, Russian warships have not visited the kingdom.

Visiting Thailand by Russian ships is an old tradition that stands at the origins of diplomatic relations between the two countries. The first such visit took place on February 19, 1863, when the ships of the fleet of the Russian Empire, the clipper "Gaydamak" and the corvette "Novik" moored at the mouth of the Chao Phraya River, on the banks of which Bangkok stands. The Russian sailors were warmly received by the King of Siam Mongkut (Rama IV). 11 years later, in February 1874, a detachment of ships of Rear Admiral Fyodor Brumer arrived in Siam. At the same time, King Rama V, who ascended the throne in 1868, declared his desire to establish friendly relations with Russia.

The next visit of the ships of the Pacific Squadron under the command of Rear Admiral Avramiy Aslanbegov took place in April 1882. Rama V awarded Russian officers with commemorative medals on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the reign of the Chakri dynasty. A powerful impetus to further strengthen relations between the two countries was given by the visit in March 1891 of Tsarevich Nikolai Alexandrovich, the future Russian Emperor Nicholas II, who arrived in Bangkok on the cruiser "Memory of Azov". The strengthening of interstate relations thanks to the Russian Navy and the subsequent visit of Rama V to the Russian Empire led to the establishment of diplomatic relations between the countries in May 1898.

As the press service of the Pacific Fleet reported on October 7, the large anti-submarine ships of the Pacific Fleet "Admiral Tributs" and "Admiral Panteleev" left Vladivostok to perform tasks in the Asia-Pacific region (APR). When leaving the main fleet base, the ships worked out emergency preparations for combat and a campaign and made the transition to the designated area. In Peter the Great Bay, the ships took on board the Ka-27 helicopters of the Naval aviation of the Pacific Fleet in anti-submarine and search-and-rescue versions. The helicopter crews flew from the base airfield in Primorsky Krai, during which they simultaneously worked out the tasks of a training flight.

As part of the combat training activities, Russian ships conduct anti-submarine exercises in the Asia-Pacific region to search for and destroy submarines of a conditional enemy together with anti-submarine helicopters, and also perform joint maneuvers with the development of algorithms for air defense and anti-sabotage defense. In addition, communication training, on-the-go resupply, as well as shipboard survivability exercises are planned during the long-distance sea voyage.
