"Unprecedented surveillance capabilities": Iran unveiled the first UAV Shahed-147 with a synthesized aperture

The Iranian defense industry continues to make progress in the field of unmanned aircraft, constantly adding new products to the arsenal of platforms of this type.

Tehran debuted with its Shahed-147 reconnaissance UAV, a long-range high–altitude system (HALE)

- it is said in the edition of the Defense Blog.

According to local sources, the new drone stands out for its characteristics and is able to boast a wingspan reaching 26 meters, an impressive air ceiling height of 60,000 feet [18 km] and a flight range of more than 1,000 km.

The Shahed-147 is equipped with a turboprop engine and, reportedly, the most modern equipment, in particular a synthetic aperture radar (SAR).

This radar increases surveillance capabilities to an unprecedented level. The use of SAR allows the drone to generate high-resolution images even in difficult weather conditions

- it is noted in the publication.

Given the close military-technical cooperation between Russia and Iran, it is possible that the domestic industry will be able to continue building up competencies in the field of unmanned aircraft, which plays a significant role on the modern battlefield.
