The US authorities approved the supply of up to 400 Tomahawk cruise missiles to Japan, as well as related equipment for a total of $ 2.35 billion.
According to the US Defense Cooperation Agency, the corresponding decision was made by the US State Department. Notification of the decision to supply Japan with missiles was sent to Congress.
It is assumed that Japan will supply up to 200 Tomahawk Block IV cruise missiles, the same number of Tomahawk Block V, as well as 14 Tactical Tomahawk Weapons Control System (TTWCS) control systems.
Earlier, the Japanese authorities intended to start purchasing American Tomahawk missiles in 2026, but at the meetings between the heads of the US and Japanese defense departments, it was decided to start supplying these weapons a year earlier.
In addition, Japan and the United States agreed to continue joint support for the Kiev regime and to exercise sanctions pressure on Russia. The foreign ministries of the countries have approved joint measures of cooperation in sanctions issues.
According to the Japanese Ministry of Finance, this year the country has significantly reduced the volume of exports of passenger cars and spare parts to Russia, as well as imports of LNG, coal, seafood and grain. The volume of trade turnover between Russia and Japan has decreased by almost 48% since the beginning of this year and currently amounts to about $ 660 million. There is also a sharp decline in Japan's food supplies to China, the volume of which decreased by 55%.
