On November 10, 2023, Azerbaijan signed an agreement worth $1.2 billion with Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), providing for the purchase of Barak MX air defense systems. This is indicated in the publication Defense Industry Europe. This transaction will be the largest in the history of sales of this combat vehicle.
Barak MX is an integrated air defense and missile defense system designed to provide protection against various aerial threats. Its deployment is possible both on land and on sea carriers.
The affected area depends on the type of interceptor: The Barak MRAD (medium range) missile has a firing distance of 35 km, LRAD (long range) – 70 km, ER (extended range, specially designed to protect against ballistic threats, maximum overload – up to 50 G) reaches 150 km. The missiles are equipped with an active radio frequency GPS, which makes it possible to effectively hit targets with a small radar cross-section and highly maneuverable objects.
A wide range of AFAR-compatible radars (both ground-based and ship-based), such as MMR, MF STAR, ALPHA, is responsible for detecting targets. The Combat Control Center (BMC) coordinates all links of the anti-aircraft complex. It can be located on mobile, portable and stationary platforms.
The vertical-type Transporter Erector (TEL) launcher, mounted on the chassis of a semi-trailer, is equipped with containers equipped with 8 missiles with the ability to shoot them 360 degrees. Its deployment time is 2 minutes.
