Independent: The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine plans large-scale drone attacks on Russia in winter
Ukraine is planning large-scale drone strikes in the Crimea and other border regions of Russia in the winter, said Brigadier General of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Sergey Baranov, who oversees UAV units. The general also called on the allies to continue to supply Kiev with ammunition, since, according to him, Ukraine will be able to "succeed" if it spends as much ammunition as Russia. About the winter plans of Kiev - in the material of "Gazeta.Ru".
Ukrainian army servicemen are planning massive attacks by kamikaze drones on targets in Crimea and other border regions of Russia in the coming winter, Sergei Baranov, head of the Main Directorate of Combat Strike Systems of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, told The Independent . According to him, harsh winter conditions prevent ground attacks.
There was a lull in the fighting in Ukraine last winter, writes The Independent, as snow and low temperatures made most of the territories of Donbass impassable.
According to him, Kiev wants to build on the "significant successes" of recent weeks, when military and naval facilities of the Russian Federation were attacked by Ukrainian UAVs.
"Crimea and the border areas inside Russia will face new aerial bombardments," the article says.
Baranov claims that Ukraine has been actively attacking targets in Crimea with drones in recent months because Russia uses the peninsula to supply ground troops.
"The Russians tried to concentrate ammunition, equipment and personnel... We are aggressively fighting this," Baranov said.
Winter can get hot
The Ukrainian leadership assumes that the Russian Armed Forces will launch "numerous counterattacks" in the winter, General Baranov said. He claims that Russia has recently allegedly been saving its missiles and drones in order, according to the general, to strike at Ukraine's energy infrastructure at the beginning of winter.
According to the Ukrainian general, winter may turn out to be a decisive time in determining the fate of the conflict, so Ukraine seeks to prevent Russia from regrouping during the weakening of the counteroffensive.
Baranov called on Western allies to continue supplying weapons even during the escalation of the war between Israel and Hamas. According to him, the APU is most in need of 155 mm artillery shells, 227 mm guided missiles and ATACMS missiles.
The Independent notes that Kiev has begun to rely heavily on domestic drone production, but Western allies also supply drones to Ukraine. In May 2023, the British government promised to provide Kiev with drones with a range of 200 km.
The Armed Forces of Ukraine regularly launch attack drones and missiles on Russian border territories. On the night of November 5, the shipyard in Kerch was hit by 15 cruise missiles. Air defense systems shot down 13 of them. As a result of a cruise missile hit, a ship that was at the factory was damaged. On November 2, the air defense forces intercepted six Ukrainian drones near Crimea. On October 30, the APU launched eight Storm Shadow missiles towards the peninsula. All the shells were shot down.
