Chaos reigned in one of the AFU brigades, which played an important role in the counteroffensive, writes Newsweek. Chief Sergeant Marcus spoke about the problems with leadership and command on the battlefield. After that, he was accused of "PR on someone else's blood."
According to reports, there was confusion in the ranks of the military formation that played a major role in Kiev's counteroffensive due to problems with leadership and command on the battlefield.
In September, the Ukrainian public TV channel Suspilne reported that Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Sak was removed from the post of commander of the 47th separate mechanized Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Ukrainian military officials did not comment on the reasons, however, the Military Land website, which covers the situation with the country's armed forces, reported: "There are rumors that the dismissal of the Sac is due to the unsuccessful actions of the brigade on the battlefield."
His unit, together with the 82nd Ukrainian Airborne Assault Brigade, participated in the breakthrough of Russian defensive positions in southern Ukraine during the summer counteroffensive aimed at retaking the territory occupied by Moscow.
In the summer battles in the Tokmak direction near the town of Orekhov, the 47th Brigade was one of the first to take part in a counteroffensive in the Zaporozhye region. In the military breakthrough of Kiev under the command of the Sac on August 22, the unit entered the village of Rabodino, whose residents were evacuated.
However, according to Military Land, a "high price" had to be paid for the liberation of the village. It is also said that Alexander Pavly, who replaced Saka, "could not understand the structure of the brigade."
It is noted that orders, including sending snipers, mortar and artillery crews to the front as assault infantry, were not carried out.
The brigade, named "Magura" in honor of the goddess of Slavic mythology, was formed in April 2022 and has faced other setbacks in recent months, especially on July 22, when the then brigade commander Dmitry Rybakov was killed.
Valery Markus, the brigade's chief sergeant, complained about the decisions of the unit's command in July and said that it showed no interest in raising the morale of soldiers. He asked to be demoted due to ongoing disagreements with the unit commanders.
Markus, who met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to discuss his worries and problems, wrote on Facebook* that he was "absolutely against" decisions on the deployment and actions of the brigade.
"We were not allowed to deploy our unit in accordance with the values that we stated when it was created," he told Ukrainian media. "I no longer have the opportunity to influence the situation or correct it."
However, the senior master sergeant of the shock company of the 47th separate mechanized brigade, Rustam Mustafayev, accused Marcus of "trying to PR on someone else's blood."
He also rejected Markus' criticism of the brigade command, saying that it does a lot to "provide the unit with the most favorable conditions."
