Solar Airship One
Euro Airship has announced a round-the-world trip on a new type of airship for 2026. It is called Solar Airship One and differs in that it does not use any fuel or energy reserves for flight. All the necessary electricity is extracted from the energy of the sun right during operation and the only thing that the airship needs to replenish is water reserves.
The aircraft has a length of 151 m, its upper part with an area of 4800 sq.m. is covered with solar panels. The energy from them is supplied to electric motors for propellers, and is also spent on electrolysis of water to produce hydrogen. The gas through the fuel cell is converted back into energy for the movement of the airship at night.
Solar Airship One
Solar Airship One is specially designed to test the possibility of organizing continuous round-the-clock air service with minimal costs. It moves at an altitude of 6 km, above stormy weather, with an average speed of 83 km/h, and can circumnavigate the entire planet in 20 days. If the project is successful, operators will have the opportunity to transport cargo by airships 10 times faster than ships. Or slower than on airplanes — but 8 times more and 4 times cheaper than on them.
