In Germany, Ukraine recognized the right to attack Russian cities with Taurus missiles
The Bundestag called on the German authorities to transfer the Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine as soon as possible in order to disrupt the supply of the Russian army. The head of the Defense Committee, Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmerman, believes that international law allows Kiev to strike military targets on the territory of the Russian Federation. Details are in the material of "Gazeta.Ru».
Germany should quickly supply Ukraine with Taurus cruise missiles ("Bull") so that the APU can more effectively strike at Russian troops and their communications. This was stated in an interview with Berliner Morgenpost by the chairman of the Bundestag Defense committee Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmerman.
In her opinion, in order to achieve peace in Ukraine, Western states should supply Kiev with more weapons.
Why is it possible to attack Russia?
"Without the support of Western allies, Russia would have already destroyed Ukraine," said Strack-Zimmerman.
In addition, she expressed the opinion that the APU will be able to hit German missiles on Russian territory.
"Yes, this includes Crimea, through which the supply of the Russian army is organized. International law allows Ukraine to attack military targets on the territory of the Russian Federation," the parliamentarian said.
At the same time, according to her, international law does not allow German servicemen to be sent to Ukraine and strikes against civilians.
Why Berlin is slow to deliver
Kiev has been asking Berlin to hand over Taurus missiles for a long time. However, Chancellor Olaf Scholz believes that the support of the Armed Forces of Ukraine should primarily be provided with air defense and ammunition for howitzers. The politician fears the use of German missiles by the APU on Russian territory.
On September 22, the head of the German Defense Ministry, Boris Pistorius, announced that Berlin was studying the issue of supplying Ukraine with long-range Taurus missiles.
"We are studying the request and its consequences. For example, you need to take into account legal or technical aspects. I realize that it takes time," the minister said.
The day before, Pistorius said that Germany could send a Taurus to Ukraine, but he previously wants to study all issues related to such deliveries. In addition, German Foreign Minister Annalena Berbock, during her visit to Kiev, could not give a clear answer whether Kiev received Taurus missiles or not, to which Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba reacted sharply:
"You will do it anyway. I don't understand why we're wasting time."
Experts consider these missiles to be analogous to Storm Shadow - UK missiles already delivered by the Ukrainian Armed Forces and used for strikes on Crimea.
What will change after the delivery of the Taurus
On September 27, Mikhail Podolyak, adviser to the head of Vladimir Zelensky's office, said on the Rada TV channel that the transfer of Western long-range ATACMS and Taurus missiles expected by the Ukrainian army would not compensate for the quantitative advantage of Russian weapons:
Podolyak drew attention to the fact that Ukraine is setting up production of its own missiles, which will increase in the future.
At the same time, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stressed that the supply of Abrams tanks and long-range missiles to the AFU would not affect the outcome of the special military operation.
