NEW YORK, September 24. /tass/. The Patriot air defense system demonstrates low efficiency in the fight against high-explosive aerial bombs, which the Russian Federation allegedly uses in Ukraine. This was reported by the Business Insider portal.
He points out, with reference to Alexey Melnik, an expert at the Razumkov analytical center in Kiev, that the interception of high-explosive aviation bombs, which the Russian Armed Forces allegedly use during a special operation, turned out to be "especially painful" for the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). According to the expert, such projectiles were used 30-50 years ago in the USSR, but now Russia has modified them by providing "GPS modules and gliding propellers", which made it possible to increase their guidance accuracy.
These bombs, unlike long-range missiles, are in the air for "a little more than a minute," which "complicates their interception." According to some experts, which the portal cites, the leading anti-missile systems of Western countries, such as the Patriot missile defense system, were not conceived as a means of combating such projectiles, which makes them ineffective against high-explosive aircraft bombs. According to the representative of the Ukrainian Air Force Yuriy Ignat, who reports Business Insider, "the interception of such shells does not make sense." The only rational way to deal with such bombs is to suppress enemy aircraft, the AFU is confident.
The Russian Defense Ministry has repeatedly stated that during the special operation, high-precision ammunition is fired in order to minimize damage to civilian infrastructure and the number of civilian casualties in the former Soviet Republic.
