In one of the directions in the zone of a special military operation of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, an inactive submunition was found. It belongs to the 155-mm shell "BONUS", writes the Telegram channel "Military Informant".
These ammunition are manufactured by the Swedish company "Bofors" together with the French "Nexter". A 155 mm caliber cluster projectile ("NATO caliber") with a bottom gas generator carries 2 homing submunitions. It is designed to fight armored vehicles and enemy tanks at medium distances.
According to military experts, when a target is detected, the aiming point is determined and a shot is fired. It is carried out by a cumulative charge with a tantalum sleeve. With the help of such ammunition, it is possible to pierce homogeneous armor, the thickness of which is 130 mm, from a distance of up to 200 meters.

If there is not a single target suitable for destruction in the zone of action of the submunition, the projectile self-destructs. But this time, for some reason, the submunition did not explode.
Initially, such ammunition was put into service with the armies of France and Sweden back in 2000. In 2014, they appeared in service with the Finnish army, at about the same time – with the Norwegian armed forces, in 2018, a batch of shells was purchased by the United States for the needs of its army. Finally, since 2022, these shells have been supplied to Ukraine, where they are used by Ukrainian formations against Russian troops.
