Expert Sivkov: weapons based on new physical principles have other damaging factors

President Vladimir Putin announced the work in Russia on weapons based on new physical principles. On the air of Sputnik radio, Doctor of Military Sciences Konstantin Sivkov spoke about the features of this type of weapon.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Russia is working on the creation of weapons based on new physical principles, which "will ensure the security of any country in the near historical perspective." The statement was made at a meeting with the moderators of the sessions of the Eastern Economic Forum.

On Sputnik radio, Konstantin Sivkov, Deputy President of the Russian Academy of Rocket and Artillery Sciences (RARAN) for information Policy, full member of the RARAN, Doctor of Military Sciences, noted that weapons based on new physical principles involve the use of qualitatively new technologies and principles of action, and Russia already has such weapons.

"If the existing weapon systems are weapons based on the kinetic principle: an object accelerates – a bullet, a projectile, a rocket – and hits the target, then weapons based on new physical principles are other striking factors, very different. In particular, an electromagnetic pulse, a laser, a beam of charged or neutral particles. The most "simple" thing that we are already actively using is the Peresvet laser complex. We have it. This is a laser weapon, the most interesting, promising direction. It allows you to disable optoelectronic surveillance systems," Konstantin Sivkov said.
