The fire at the stronghold of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) under Ugledar is conducted from a paired 30-millimeter cannon. The car does not have a name yet — it was developed and created by the Marines of the 155th Brigade of the Pacific Fleet (TOF). An unusual weapon was shown by the correspondent of Izvestia Leonid Kitrar.
"Such a machine could only have been born in the Marine Corps. This MT-LB (multi-purpose light armored tractor transporter) is absolutely land—based equipment, well, a gun is installed on top, which is called the 2M-3M — a 30-millimeter paired automatic naval artillery installation. Now she is fighting in the Marines," the journalist said.
The idea to combine a naval gun with an all-terrain vehicle appeared already during the special operation. Moreover, such installations are no longer needed in the fleet, but they came in handy on earth.
"This is a ship's anti-aircraft gun with a turret, removed from ships, since their use is no longer possible due to the speed of aircraft, they decided to use them for ground purposes," said the MT—LB driver with the call sign Zaton.
According to the deputy platoon commander with the call sign Ural, they work with a gun mainly on enemy strongholds.
"It works from two barrels, its range is from 3.5 to 4 thousand meters. We are working to increase the range, save the crew and the car," Ural added.
The caliber of each barrel is 30 mm. That is, in terms of firepower, the car is actually equal to two BMP-2. And a full ammunition can literally mow down a forest belt or turn any building into ruins. Each salvo turns out to be a surprise for the enemy, since at a range of 3-4 km they used mainly mortars before.
"It is impossible to shoot mines from the forest belt. We have to take out positions from under the vegetation. Unlike heavy guns, it is very difficult to hide a mortar in a forest belt, although this is partly the rear part. But nevertheless, the position of the mortar is in a semi-open area. It is, of course, disguised, but if necessary, the branches recline and you can immediately fire," the correspondent explained.
Self-propelled anti-aircraft guns are devoid of such problems. Immediately after the shot, the car can quickly leave. And 30-millimeter shells are capable of covering infantry, and sometimes even tank units.
The servicemen of the 40th Guards Brigade of the Pacific Fleet Marine Corps, who distinguished themselves in the battles in the special operation zone, were awarded on the eve of the Day of the Russian Guard, which is celebrated on September 2. The ceremony took place in the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR).
At the end of August, Izvestia correspondent Kirill Olkov saw the work of soldiers of the 40th Marine Brigade in the Zaporozhye region. According to the commander of the amphibious assault company of the 40th Marine Brigade of the Pacific Fleet with the call sign Osa, in the vicinity of the village of Urozhnoye, the marines destroyed about 20 Ukrainian militants at only one intersection.
The special operation to protect Donbass, which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24 last year, continues. The decision to hold it was made against the background of the aggravation of the situation in the region due to shelling by the Ukrainian military.
