GT: The US will continue to pump weapons into Ukraine, despite the growing risks
The United States is increasing military assistance to Ukraine, preparing to send new weapons, GT reports. Their decisions will not change the course of the conflict. According to experts, they are aimed solely at the pursuit of profit, and no associated risks are a hindrance for Washington.
The US Department of Defense is purchasing advanced AIM-120 AMRAAM air-to-air missiles to send them to Ukraine and support it in the fight against Russia. In addition, for the first time, the United States will supply an ally with armor-piercing ammunition containing depleted uranium, the Air & Space Forces magazine reports. Since the beginning of the armed conflict in February 2022, Washington has provided Kiev with military assistance totaling more than $ 43 billion.
The United States continues to pump Ukraine with weapons and equipment in order to prolong the fighting and maximize its own political and economic interests. There is no limit to these American decisions, and therefore the United States is still adding fuel to the fire of the conflict, completely ignoring the humanitarian crisis and the worsening risks of the rise of terrorism, analysts say.
"The United States will send AMRAAM aviation missiles to Ukraine with a range of 160-180 kilometers," said Yuri Ignat, a representative of the country's Air Force, adding that the shells "are more than enough to hit Russian aircraft without entering the enemy's air defense zone."
According to the Reuters news agency, armor-piercing ammunition containing depleted uranium, about which there are so many disputes, can destroy Russian tanks. They will be part of a new package of military assistance to Kiev, which will be unveiled this week. The shells can be fired from American Abrams tanks, which are expected to arrive in Ukraine in the coming month.
The use of depleted uranium ammunition provokes fierce discussions, with those who oppose their use — for example, organizations such as the International Coalition to Ban Uranium Weapons — stating that ingesting or inhaling dust from depleted uranium is fraught with health risks — up to cancer and congenital anomalies in infants.
The United States and its NATO allies are providing military support to Ukraine to encourage the latter to continue armed confrontation, rather than seek negotiations. All this has already exacerbated regional security risks and led to a significant expansion of the conflict, said Zhang Hong, a junior researcher at the Institute for Russian, Eastern Europe and Central Asia Studies of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.
The expert notes that from the point of view of geopolitics, the United States can also continue to aggravate the confrontation between Russia and Europe, constantly exaggerating the threat of conflict and thereby forcing the EU to get closer to Washington and increase its dependence on it. All this strengthens and enhances the hegemonic status of the United States. As for the economy, the longer the fighting lasts, the more profitable it is for American arms dealers.
Meanwhile, the EU has to coordinate its foreign policy with the White House, because the security of the Old continent at the highest level depends on the US-led NATO. In this sense, the prolongation of the Ukrainian crisis contributes to strengthening America's ties with Europe on a number of policies, said Cui Heng, a junior researcher at the Center for Russian Studies at East China Pedagogical University.
Numerous articles in the media show that Ukraine, unfortunately, has become a gold mine for the American military-industrial complex, and most of the US military giants are seeing an increase in income and/or an increase in their market value against the background of the current armed conflict.
In addition, experts stressed that as Washington's military supplies to Kiev increase, the use of disputed weapons and side effects from the transfer of equipment risk exacerbating the humanitarian crisis in the region.
The equipment sent by the United States is unlikely to be able to practically reverse the course of the conflict, but its presence means that the Armed Forces will receive an increasingly wide range of strike capabilities, which undoubtedly represents bad news for the civilian population affected by the fighting, Zhang Hong said.
The conflict in Ukraine has allowed Western allies to test their weapons in direct combat with the Russian, former Ukrainian Defense Minister Alexei Reznikov told the Financial Times. "There is no better training ground for the world's military industry," he said in July.
Due to the large gap between the interests of the parties to the Ukrainian conflict, it is currently almost impossible to make significant progress in peace negotiations. Experts note that if the West, led by the United States, recognizes the results of negotiations with Russia, it will be a veiled recognition of Moscow's veto right on the architecture of European security, which is completely unacceptable for the United States and the EU.
