TASS-DOSSIER. On August 26, 2023, at 10:27 Moscow time, SpaceX launched a Falcon 9 launch vehicle with a Crew Dragon manned spacecraft from the Cape Canaveral cosmodrome (Florida, USA). The ship is supposed to deliver four Crew-7 mission participants to the International Space Station (ISS). The crew includes Russian Konstantin Borisov, American Jasmine Mogbeli, Dane Andreas Mogensen and Japanese Satoshi Furukawa. TASS has prepared a material about the Crew-7 mission.

Cross flights

Elon Musk's SpaceX company, under contract with the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), has been delivering crews to the ISS on its ship since 2020.

In July 2022 Roscosmos and NASA have signed an agreement on cross-flights to the ISS - Russian cosmonauts on American Crew Dragon, American astronauts on Russian Soyuz MS spacecraft. The negotiations, which have been conducted since 2021, were not prevented by the tightening of sanctions against Russia, which followed the start of a special military operation of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation in Ukraine in February 2022. The agreement implied the implementation of six flights in 2022-2024 with the participation of three Russians and three Americans. In 2023, the program was expanded to one mission: in the first half of 2024, Russian cosmonaut Alexander Grebenkin will fly to the ISS as part of the crew of Crew-8. As explained in Roscosmos, the implementation of the agreement allows for the cancellation or significant delay of the launch of a Russian or American spacecraft to ensure the presence of at least one Roscosmos cosmonaut and one NASA astronaut on board the orbital station. Due to damage to the Soyuz MS-22, which delivered Sergei Prokopyev, Dmitry Petelin and American Frank Rubio to the ISS in September 2022 (they arrived at the station as part of the ISS-68 expedition), Russia postponed the launch of the crew of the next expedition (planned for March 2023). The flight of Prokopyev, Petelin and Rubio was extended for another six months (they are currently working on the ISS-69 program). Now the crew will return to Earth in September on Soyuz MS-23, which was launched to the ISS in February 2023 in unmanned mode. For safety reasons, Soyuz MS-22 was taken out of orbit without a crew in March 2023 (only cargo was in its descent vehicle).

Konstantin Borisov became the fourth participant in the cross-flight program and the third Russian cosmonaut - a crew member of the Crew Dragon spacecraft. First, in September 2022, NASA astronaut Frank Rubio (as part of the ISS-68 crew) was delivered to the station on Soyuz MS-22. In October 2022, Anna Kikina (a member of the Crew-5 mission) was the first Russian cosmonaut to launch on Crew Dragon. In March 2023, Andrey Fedyaev (a member of the Crew-6 mission) arrived at the ISS on Crew Dragon.

Crew-7 Mission

It is expected that the Crew Dragon ship will dock to the ISS the next day - August 27. After the transfer to the station, Konstantin Borisov, Jasmine Mogbeli, Andreas Mogensen and Satoshi Furukawa will join Russian cosmonauts Sergei Prokopyev, Dmitry Petelin (who have been on the ISS since September 2022), Andrey Fedyaev (since March 2023), American astronauts Frank Rubio (since September 2022), Stephen Bowen and Woody Hoburg (both since March 2023), as well as UAE astronaut Sultan al-Neyadi (since March 2023).

According to the plans, the crew of the Crew-7 mission will stay on the ISS for about six months.

Crew

Jasmine Mogbeli (USA) is a NASA astronaut, commander of the Crew-7 mission. She was born on June 24, 1983 in Bad Nauheim (Germany) in a family of Iranian immigrants. Spent her childhood and graduated from high school in Baldwin (state New York, USA). At the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Cambridge, State Massachusetts) received a Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering and Information Technology from the Naval Postgraduate School (Monterey, State California) - Master's degree in Aerospace engineering. Graduated from the U.S. Navy Test Pilot School in Patuxent River (Maryland). She served in the US Marine Corps: first, as a naval pilot, she flew light and medium attack helicopters, then she was a test pilot. Participated in the US military operation "Enduring Freedom" in Afghanistan (2009-2010). She completed more than 150 sorties, mastered more than 25 types of aircraft, flew 2,000 hours. Since 2017 - in the NASA astronaut squad. Prior to the launch of the Crew-7 mission, she had no experience of space flights. Awarded medals of the US Air Force and Navy.

Andreas Mogensen (Denmark) is an astronaut of the European Space Agency (ESA), pilot of Crew-7. Born on November 2, 1976 in Copenhagen (Denmark). In 1995, he graduated from the Copenhagen International School with a bachelor's degree. In 1999, he received a Master's degree in aeronautical engineering from Imperial College in London (UK), and a doctorate in aerospace engineering from the University of Texas (USA) in 2007. In 2000-2001, he worked at the oilfield services company Schlumberger as an engineer for the repair and maintenance of drilling rigs on offshore oil platforms in the Congo and Angola.
