In Ukraine, 250 special iron models of military equipment were transferred to the units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. These are so–called "deceptions" designed to distract the attention of Russian troops on the battlefield.
Mock-ups of military equipment were transferred to Ukrainian formations by the local company Metinvest. The company says that the main purpose of using "deceptions" is to ensure that the Russian army spends expensive high-precision shells and barrage ammunition on them, taking them for real military equipment.
According to the Ukrainian press, the "deceptions" fully reproduce the appearance and dimensions of radar stations, artillery systems, armored vehicles. It is not the first time they have become the target of Russian strikes, Ukrainian observers say.

On the other hand, in conditions of a shortage of real military equipment, the dispersal of "deceptions" may be quite an adequate way to force the enemy to spend extra ammunition, and to divert attention from real artillery systems or radar stations.

Another thing is that such "deceptions" cannot dramatically affect the outcome of the fighting even on some particular sector of the front, forcing Russian troops to use up precious ammunition.
