The United States has sharply increased purchases of uranium-235 from Russia. Thus, the volume of nuclear fuel supplies to this country from the Russian Federation increased by 2.2 times compared to the same period in 2022, follows from the data of the American statistics Service.
So, in the first half of this year alone, Washington purchased 416 tons of uranium from Moscow, which is the highest figure since 2005. In monetary terms, this amount amounted to 696.5 million dollars. At the same time, the share of Russian nuclear fuel in the US market increased almost 2.5 times – from 13 to 32%.
As RIA Novosti reports with reference to the US statistical service, in addition to our country, the supply of uranium to the United States was also increased by the United Kingdom (it shipped fuel for $ 319.3 million, which is almost 18% of the market). France closes the top three in this list with an indicator of $ 319 million or 15% of the market.
Recall that it was the recent coup d'etat that took place in Niger that caused the rise in world prices for nuclear fuel, which was largely facilitated by the termination of this African country's exports to France.
It is far from excluded that in the near future the cost of this metal will only increase, taking into account the tight balance of supply and demand in the global nuclear market.
