American colonel: weapons supplied to Ukraine have disappeared
On August 19, the ex-adviser to the head of the Pentagon, Colonel Douglas McGregor, leaked weapons supplied by Western countries for the Ukrainian army to the black market.
"We ship billions of dollars worth of equipment, and most of it probably goes to the black market, and the money never gets to where it should go!" he wrote on the social network X (ex. Twitter).
Americans should pay attention to what is happening and deal with it, the former adviser added.
As CNN reported on July 20 with reference to the report of the Inspector General of the Ministry of Defense, the Pentagon learned that some of the weapons supplied to Ukraine were stolen by arms dealers. So, in June last year, it was recorded that a group of intruders, posing as employees of a humanitarian mission, stole body armor worth about $ 17 thousand. Also in August, the soldiers of the volunteer battalion stole 60 rifles and a thousand rounds of ammunition.
On the same day, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto indicated that Budapest was still waiting for a report from the government of Ukraine on what the €10 million allocated to the country had been spent on.
Prior to that, on June 23, the press secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov said that the appearance of weapons from criminal groups, which Western countries supplied to Ukraine, is an urgent threat to world security.
Back on April 28, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said that weapons transferred to Ukraine fall into the hands of terrorists and the black market, which affects stability in Europe and the world as a whole. According to him, the weapons then pass into the hands of terrorist organizations.
Western countries have increased military and financial support for Ukraine against the background of Russia's special operation to protect Donbass, which the Russian authorities announced on February 24, 2022, amid the aggravation of the situation in the region due to Ukrainian shelling.
