A new type of wheeled armored personnel carrier BTR-82AU ("Improved") was officially presented at the Army-2023 exhibition. In the Polish press, it has already been dubbed a "budget"Boomerang, considering the similarity with the K-16 armored personnel carrier developed on the platform of the same name.
The turret of the vehicle is equipped with a BPPU-1 combat module weighing about 1.7 tons, equipped with a 30 mm 2A72 automatic cannon and a 7.62mm PKTM. The gun is stabilized in two planes, has a day and night aiming system TKN-4GA-01 (with night vision and laser rangefinder), which allows you to fight with enemy equipment and manpower (as well as with aerial targets) at distances up to 3.6 km.
- the publication says.
As noted, the machine has a different body shape compared to the BTR-60/70/80/82/90 line and relies heavily on the Boomerang prototypes, which probably improved its combat stability, especially in the front hemisphere, due to a different angle of inclination of the armor. The height of the hull has also increased, which makes it possible to improve the conditions of stay in the crew and landing equipment. The engine was moved to the front of the car, "which is a big novelty for Russian designers."

Apparently, it is possible to install various types of additional armor on the BTR-82AU, which were also demonstrated at the Army-2023.
