At the Army-2023 forum, Almaz-Antey showed an improved PRP-5 artillery reconnaissance complex. This modern tracked armored vehicle debuted in 2022 during the Victory Day Parade in Tula, where it is produced.
The BMP-3 chassis is used as a base. At the same time, there is a wheeled version using the BTR-82A platform. Both modifications have the ability to swim through water obstacles.
The PRP-5 is equipped with a remote-controlled module that houses specialized equipment. A distinctive feature of the machine is a retractable mast, on which an optoelectronic integrated reconnaissance device (OEKPR) and radar are installed, the joint work of which increases the effectiveness of enemy detection.
The EKPR is equipped with a color TV channel, a high-precision TV channel and a thermal imager. In addition, its rangefinder can accurately determine the distance to enemy targets at a distance of up to 15 km from them. The onboard radar boasts the ability to detect individual infantrymen from a distance of more than 6 km and equipment from a distance of more than 15 km.
Drones, including the T-28 UAV, are assigned to the PRP-5, due to which the range of the complex increases to 25 km.
For self-defense, the PRP-5 is armed with a 12.7 mm machine gun with a reserve of 2,000 rounds. The travel speed in the tracked version is up to 70 km / h, in the wheeled version – at least 80 km / h.
