"It will protect the battle formations in positions and in motion": the Western press appreciated the new ZAK-23E anti-aircraft gun

Russia presented a prototype of the new ZAK-23E mobile complex at the Army-2023 exhibition forum. The short-range self-propelled anti-aircraft artillery system, developed jointly by Tulamashzavod and STC Elins, was created on the basis of the BTR-82A and armed with two 23-mm ZU-23-2 guns.

With a rate of fire of up to 3,500 rounds per minute, the ZAK-23E is capable of hitting targets at a distance of up to 2.5 km and at altitudes up to 2000 m

- says the publication Army Recognition.

As noted, the system, equipped with advanced optoelectronic detection means, is capable of destroying air threats in autonomous mode, such as drones, helicopters and cruise missiles operating in the near zone.

The main purpose of the complex is to protect combat formations – both located in positions and in motion

- it is indicated in the Western press.

According to the author, the use of the proven service of the ZU-23-2 for decades provides an impressive rate of fire of the anti–aircraft gun, the mobile platform – its maneuverability, operational flexibility and the ability to move off-road, the presence of its own ECO - independent detection of targets.

For our part, we note that the mass appearance of the ZAK-23 at the front would allow Russian troops to get rid of the practice of placing the ZU-23-2 on board unprotected trucks.
