Then Vima: a new US military base may appear on the Greek island of Skyros
MOSCOW, August 14/ Sputnik Radio. The United States is discussing the possibility of opening a new American military base on the island of Skyros in the Aegean Sea, writes the newspaper To Vima.
The publication notes that the House of Representatives of the US Congress has adopted an amendment to the Defense Budget Bill (NDAA), which calls for considering the possibility of expanding defense cooperation between the countries.
According to the authors of the article, the "strategically important" island of Skyros may be included in the list of "services" provided by the United States under the MDCA. Now the 135th Aviation regiment is stationed there, there is a military airfield, two Israeli-made Heron UAV systems are deployed, and the 22nd division of the Patriot air defense system is deployed.
