Colonel Khodarenok: Ukraine attacked the Crimean Bridge with easily hit missiles

Ukraine tried to attack the Crimean Bridge with S-200 missiles converted into a shock version. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, there were two attacks. The missiles were shot down by air defense over the Kerch Strait. What kind of modified S-200 missiles are these and what kind of danger they pose, the military observer of the Newspaper understood.En" Mikhail Khodarenok.

For attacks on infrastructure facilities in the rear of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, the Ukrainian army uses (including) anti-aircraft guided missiles S-200V 5V28 of various modifications. A significant number of them still remain on the bases and in the arsenals of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

By and large, it is not so difficult to convert the 5B28 anti-aircraft guided missile (SAM) into an operational-tactical (OTR), taking into account the availability of relevant competencies on the Ukrainian side.

Simplifying the situation somewhat, we can say that instead of the homing head of the 5V28N rocket, a gyrostabilized platform plus a special calculator is installed. And the rocket can already be used as an OTR.

Most likely, the standard warhead of the missile defense system changes when it is converted into an operational-tactical missile, since in 5B28N it (weight 217.5 kg, the number of ready-made striking elements (steel balls weighing 2-2.5 g) is 37 thousand pieces, the angle of spread is 120 degrees)[/i] is designed exclusively for hitting aerial targets and is not quite suitable for shooting at infrastructure facilities.

It is quite possible that the Ukrainians are putting a more powerful high-explosive fragmentation warhead on the 5B28 missile, since the requirements for maneuverability of the missile when flying along a ballistic trajectory are significantly reduced, and this allows it to increase its weight.

In addition, when firing at short distances, the explosion of the remnants of fuel and oxidizer in the rocket tanks (5B28 - a rocket with a liquid rocket engine) also contributes to the strengthening of the explosive effect[/i]. Among other things, the AK-27 oxidizer and the TG-02 fuel (namely, they are refueled by the S-200 missile) are very toxic.

As for the firing range of 5B28 S-200 missiles, when hitting air targets, the far boundary of the affected zone is 240-255 km. However, when flying along a ballistic trajectory, the missile can fly at least twice as far.

At the Saryshagan training ground, during emergency situations, cases of reaching a range of 700 km were noted . The accuracy of hitting 5B28 when shooting at ground targets (QUO - circular probable deviation) can only be said for now. And it is unlikely that it is measured in meters.

As a target for modern anti-aircraft missile systems and complexes, the S-200 missile is not particularly difficult. It is large in geometric dimensions (only about 11 m long), has a considerable reflective surface, the average speed of 5V28 is relatively small - about 800 m/sec. With timely and accurate targeting, the S-200 missile is relatively easily hit by the S-300/400 air defense system.
