In the near future, Lithuania will send the NASAMS air defense system to Ukraine. This was announced by the Lithuanian Ministry of Defense on its website.
The new package of military assistance to Ukraine, in addition to the air defense system, will include means of combating drones, logistical equipment and even clamshells. The Baltic countries have been providing military support to the Kiev regime since the very beginning of the special operation, although they themselves do not have impressive arsenals.
At the end of June 2023, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda announced that Vilnius had acquired two NASAMS anti–aircraft missile systems (SAMs) - specifically in order to transfer them to Ukraine. As the Lithuanian president noted on the social network, the transfer of additional complexes to Ukraine will strengthen its air defense capabilities.
Recall that NASAMS (Eng. Norwegian Advanced Surface to Air Missile System) is a Norwegian-made mobile anti-aircraft missile system. It can destroy maneuvering aerial targets at low and medium altitudes, including airplanes, helicopters, ballistic and cruise missiles, and unmanned aerial vehicles. The complex belongs to the systems of small and medium range.
Ukraine already has NASAMS air defense systems in service, but their presence at the disposal of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is not a significant obstacle to the application of effective strikes by the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation against the military infrastructure of the Kiev regime.
