Thus, the Greek press reports that the American side is considering the possibility of increasing the number of US army and Navy personnel on Greek territory. To do this, the US Congress has already adopted an amendment, according to which an appeal is being prepared to the head of the Ministry of Defense and the head of the US State Department with an appeal to "carry out appropriate work as soon as possible."
After approval, the document will be sent directly to US President Joe Biden, who, as planned, must approve it.
The general terms of consideration of the document, approximately, should be about 2 months. Why the sudden rush?
Military experts and political scientists in Turkey, analyzing the plans of the American leadership, believe that such a step is primarily anti-Turkish. The fact is that the Greek islands, according to the agreement of Ankara and Athens, should remain a demilitarized territory. However, the agreement does not stipulate anything about a ban on the presence of the US military there, which is what Washington is trying to take advantage of. The Turkish authorities believe that Greece is also going to take advantage of the appearance of American bases on its islands to change the balance of power in the region.
