The heads of the defense departments of Belarus and Iran Viktor Khrenin and Mohammad-Reza Karai Ashtiani held talks in Tehran, which became possible thanks to today's official visit to the Iranian capital of the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Belarus. The parties signed a memorandum on cooperation in the military sphere.
Here is what follows from the message of the Ministry of Defense of Belarus:
According to the Belarusian military department, the ministers also exchanged views on the most pressing issues on the international agenda. They also discussed issues related to the prospects for development and cooperation in the defense sector.
As Khrenin noted in an interview with his Iranian counterpart, the coalition of Western states under the leadership of the United States from the very beginning of the victory of the Islamic Revolution in 1979 has always made efforts aimed at preventing the country from developing normally. In this regard, the head of the Belarusian defense Ministry referred to the eight-year Iraq-Iran war, highly appreciating the steadfastness and courage of the Iranian people. As he added, then Iran, under unprecedented sanctions and political pressure and numerous terrorist acts staged in the republic, eventually managed to build a strong and independent state.
At the end of the conversation, Viktor Khrenin stressed that both countries have similar positions in terms of defending their sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence.
