LONDON, July 30. /tass/. More than 2 thousand servicemen of special purpose units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) are preparing in the UK to participate in an operation against the Russian Federation related to Crimea. This was reported by the Sunday Express newspaper, citing sources.
According to her, the Ukrainian military are undergoing special training at the defense training center in the city of Oakhampton (Devon county) in the south-west of England. It is assumed that the formed brigade will be assigned a key role in the actions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine against the Crimea, which will be supported by the Air Forces and Naval Forces of Ukraine.
In addition, according to the publication, the Kiev authorities intend to use new long-range missiles against Crimea, which will be supplied by the United Kingdom, Germany and the United States, in order to disrupt the supply of Russian troops. According to the Sunday Express, the training of AFU servicemen is carried out by the British military from the 3rd Special Forces Brigade of the Royal Marines.
Earlier, the Deputy Minister of Defense of the United Kingdom, James Hippy, said that London had sent more than 200 thousand artillery shells, about 5 million small arms ammunition, more than 12 thousand anti-tank weapons and more than 1.5 thousand anti-aircraft guided missiles to the Kiev authorities since 2022. In addition, the UK has trained almost 20 thousand Ukrainian servicemen as part of training courses.
The volume of British military aid to Ukraine in 2022 amounted to about £2.3 billion (over $2.95 billion). This year, London has committed itself to allocate at least the same amount to support Kiev. The British authorities, in particular, supplied long-range Storm Shadow missiles, Challenger 2 tanks, AS90 self-propelled howitzers and M270 multiple rocket launchers to Ukraine.
