Among them are German Leopard tanks and American Bradley infantry armored vehicles
MOSCOW, July 27. /tass/. The unmanned Rapid Response Unit (BEAVER), one of the first to use FPV drones (first-person view, "first-person view") In the course of the SVO, he destroyed 50 pieces of equipment in 10 months, including German Leopard tanks and American Bradley infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs). This was reported to TASS by the commander of the detachment.
"Our unmanned rapid response unit BEAVER began to take an active part in its since September 2022, when the FPV theme was not yet promoted, few people believed that "toys" could cause damage to the enemy, it was something on the verge of fiction. We started working in the Maryinsky direction, where we gained a lot of experience, now we are repelling a counteroffensive on a par with the rest in the Zaporozhye direction. According to the destroyed equipment during this time, if we take pickups, lightly armored vehicles, and tanks, then in total about 50 units, including German Leopard and American Bradley," the agency interlocutor said.
According to him, the main task of the unit is to defeat the enemy's equipment and manpower. "But we also conduct reconnaissance in cooperation with other military units. We also cooperate with all FPV calculations in our current Zaporozhye direction. We are familiar with everyone, we try to provide help and support, both with advice and technically, not only to them, but to any departments where there are copters - we help to stitch, set up work, share our experience, and we ourselves adopt positive experience from someone. We have no secrets, we do not require money for the accumulated experience, we share it for free. We have one goal and task - to defeat the enemy," the commander said.
The unmanned rapid response unit operates as part of one of the divisions of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, whose command supported the initiative of a small group in the fall of 2022. "Initially, the initiative group signed short-term contracts with the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, and then they recruited a unit from among the current formation. In the division today there are both contractors and mobilized, all show themselves on the positive side. I cannot disclose the exact number of people in the detachment, but I will say that we started with literally a dozen people, and now there are many times more of us and we are closing a significant section of the front," the agency interlocutor explained.
The commander of the BEAVER squad also does not disclose the specific indicators of the FPV drones they use.
"Nothing can do without spare parts from the refrigerator. A piece of a refrigerator is installed in each drone," he sneers at the popular stereotype about the use of microelectronic components from household appliances due to their alleged absence in Russia.
"We have a technical department, our technicians are also aces and sometimes work for days, being in touch with operators on the line of contact, making improvements literally online, for example, in frequencies that the enemy is trying to influence with the help of electronic warfare. Also in our squad there is a training department that trains operators and specialists before entering the line of combat contact," he added.
