Kyodo: North Korea launched two ballistic missiles
The DPRK launched a second, presumably, ballistic missile. This was reported on Tuesday, July 18, by the Kyodo news agency with reference to the Coast Guard of Japan.
According to the agency, both missiles launched by North Korea have most likely already fallen.
Meanwhile, the South Korean Yonhap news agency reports that, according to the Joint Chiefs of Staff, two North Korean short-range ballistic missiles landed in the East Sea, flying 550 km.
Earlier in the day, it was reported that the first missile was launched towards the Sea of Japan. Currently, the military is investigating indicators such as the type and range of the projectile.
Prior to that, on July 16, South Korea, the United States and Japan held trilateral missile defense exercises in the international waters of the Sea of Japan. According to media reports, the exercises were aimed at strengthening the capabilities of the military of the three countries to respond to ballistic missiles.
According to the statement of the South Korean Foreign Ministry on July 14, the Government of the Republic of Korea expanded sanctions against the DPRK due to the launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile. The restrictions affected current and former high-ranking officials of North Korea.
On July 12, the DPRK launched a missile that was in the air for 74 minutes and fell 250 km from Hokkaido outside the exclusive economic zone of Japan in the Sea of Japan. Of the country's 12 launches, this flight was the longest.
Earlier, on June 15, the DPRK launched a ballistic missile towards the Sea of Japan. The launch data was confirmed by the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Republic of Korea.
