According to the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksiy Danilov, "nuclear weapons are just the thing that, unfortunately, they are afraid of in the West"
MOSCOW, July 13. /tass/. It is very important for the Ukrainian leadership that the nuclear-weapon states of the Group of Seven (G7), with which Kiev is going to conclude bilateral security agreements, transfer such assistance to it in the event of a threat to Ukraine. This was stated on the air of the Rada TV channel by the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) of Ukraine Alexey Danilov.
"This was the key thing - when we will have separate agreements with each member of the "seven" on our security. This is a very important thing when the countries that own nuclear weapons will provide us with such assistance," he said.
The NSDC Secretary noted that each agreement will indicate the responsibility of the parties for "certain processes that will occur during certain actions."
"I think this is an absolutely useful thing for us, moreover, it is absolutely substantive, taking into account the fact that there are countries in the "seven" that directly own nuclear weapons. Because now nuclear weapons are just the thing that, unfortunately, the West is afraid of," Danilov continued.
According to him, Ukraine's abandonment of its nuclear weapons stockpiles under the terms of the Budapest Memorandum concluded in 1994 was a "strategic mistake of the West."
The declaration of the G7 countries on the general principles of long-term security guarantees for Ukraine, adopted on Wednesday on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Vilnius, notes that the members of the "seven" begin negotiations with Kiev on bilateral commitments and agreements in the field of security. In addition, the document says that the G7 will increase the supply of weapons to Ukraine, while priority will be given to long-range artillery and combat aircraft. The leaders of Great Britain, Germany, Italy, Canada, the USA, France and Japan promised that they would support the further development of the defense industrial base of Ukraine, train Ukrainian servicemen, cooperate in the exchange of intelligence information, support defense in the cyber sphere, including by countering hybrid threats. In addition, the declaration indicates that other countries can join it at any time.
