The original was taken from a colleague of olegranovsky, the Navy wants to commission the first corvette of the Reshef class in 2027.
For several years, the Israeli Navy has been working on the Reshef corvette project with a displacement of about 1,000 tons, based on the Saar-72 of the Israeli Shipyards company. The new corvettes should replace the Saar-4.5 missile boats that entered service 20-32 years ago (the first boat of the Saar-4.5 Nirit subclass entered service in 1991, the last one in 2003). The latest news on the promotion of the project was posted 2 years ago: 08/26.21 The Ministry of Defense [Israel] signed with "Israeli shipyards" contract for the detailed design of "Reshef" .
And on 07.07.23, the navalnews website published the following news . In May 2023, the CNE 2023 Naval Conference (CNE - Combined Naval Event) was held in Farnborough, Great Britain. On 25.05.23, Lieutenant Colonel Jonathan Kudish, Head of the Platform Development Department (Rosh Anaf Pituah Platformot) at the headquarters of the Israeli Navy, spoke at this conference. According to him, the construction is nearing completion, the construction of the first corvette will begin in late 2023 or early 2024.
Jonathan also said that "Israeli Shipyards" will remain the main contractor of the project and at the stage of construction of corvettes. However, a significant part of the elements and the complete assembly of the hull will be carried out in the USA by an American shipyard, which will play the role of a subcontractor relative to an Israeli company. This decision was made to use the funds of American military assistance. Next, electronics and weapons will be installed in Israel, by analogy with the Saar-6 corvettes. The intention is to put the first corvette into operation at the beginning of 2027. Moreover, judging by what was said at the beginning of 2027, the first corvette should already be combat ready.
The new corvettes will carry the ELM-2258 ALPHA radar (Advanced Lightweight Phased Array) with an active phased array antenna, 76-mm OTO Melara Super Rapid AU, Raphael C-Dome SAM, two 30-mm Typhoon AU, jamming systems, a place for the future installation of a combat laser. In the middle part of the corvette's hull there will be a place for the installation of a PKR, called "Malkhehey Yam" (perhaps we are talking about the "Gabriel-5" of the IAI company). The combat control system and the integration of all weapons systems will also be Israeli, using the experience and infrastructure created within the framework of the Saar-6 corvettes project.
The rear part of the ship will be occupied by the so-called "multipurpose deck". Container modules will be installed here, in accordance with the current task of the corvette. For example, with towed GAS for anti-submarine warfare tasks.
