North Korea has warned that it may shoot down US military aircraft in its airspace
North Korea has warned the US that it may shoot down American reconnaissance planes in the event of a violation of airspace. The corresponding statement was published on July 10 by the Korean Central Telegraph Agency (KCNA).
"The United States will have to pay dearly for its provocative aerial reconnaissance, which is being carried out furiously with an invasion of our airspace without notice. There is no guarantee that shocking events will not occur, such as the destruction of a strategic reconnaissance aircraft of the US Air Force over the East Sea (Sea of Japan. — Ed.)," the agency quotes a representative of the DPRK defense ministry.
It is noted that in early July, American RC-135 and U-2S reconnaissance aircraft, as well as the RQ-4B Global Hawk drone flew in the area of the Korean Peninsula. According to the DPRK Defense Ministry, in the period from July 2 to July 9, several cases of violation of the DPRK airspace by a US aircraft were recorded.
As the representative of the Ministry of Defense of the DPRK pointed out, at the moment the country is showing "maximum patience and endurance," but there is a limit to everything. He stressed that the United States should immediately stop provocations.
Earlier, on June 25, KCNA, citing a report by the Institute of American Studies at the DPRK Foreign Ministry, reported that the aggressive actions of the United States are exacerbating the tense situation on the Korean peninsula, bringing it "to the brink of nuclear war."
On April 26, American President Joe Biden said that the United States is seeking a diplomatic breakthrough with the DPRK. According to him, the DPRK threatens more and more often and grossly violates US sanctions.
