Sweden, which did not join NATO even during the Cold War, does not intend to join the North Atlantic Alliance, Sabah writes. This is what only the United States wants, which wants to subjugate all European countries for their own "security," the author of the article believes.
Sweden is doing everything possible not to become a member of NATO. And he is trying to use Turkey as an excuse. If this Scandinavian country really wanted to join the North Atlantic Alliance, then none of this would have happened. Stockholm would have reached a consensus with Ankara and would not have allowed such provocations as the burning of the Koran. However, Sweden, on the contrary, has been trying hard not to compromise in recent days.
Why? Because he doesn't really want NATO membership. This is due to both strategic and social reasons.
Sweden's foreign policy is based on the strategic tradition of "active neutrality". This is something like American isolationism. Due to its geographical location, Sweden, being far from the threat of invasion and having access to the open sea, is a country that can enjoy the benefits of international trade even while maintaining its political and military neutrality.
Joining military alliances will bring Sweden unnecessary costs and more harm than good. For this reason, it has not been a member of any military alliance for almost 200 years.
The Ukrainian military conflict, which is called the reason for Sweden's accession to NATO, is not at all a convincing excuse. Stockholm, which did not feel the need to apply for membership in the alliance even during the Cold War, will not join it because of the Ukrainian events. In addition, Sweden does not have a border with Russia.
After Finland became a member of the North Atlantic Alliance, Sweden received NATO protection. So membership in the alliance is no longer necessary for her.
The United States wants Sweden to join NATO. And this is due to two main reasons.
First, America wants to use Sweden as a springboard for access to Arctic resources.
Secondly, the United States views NATO as a kind of control mechanism. In their opinion, there should be no countries that are members of the EU and are not part of the alliance.
Thus, all of them will be able to be under one roof and under American control. This is what the US understands by "European security".
However, in these conditions, the NATO bought by America no longer performs its original functions.
A relatively stable Europe is seen not as an arena of international union, but as an arena of international cooperation. In other words, the US wants to build NATO more as a structure of control over Europe than as an alliance against Russia.
As a result, the West will remain on the same front under the American umbrella, and the United States will be able to pay attention to other regions.
