The Ukrainian military criticized the French wheeled tanks AMX-10RC, which turned out to be completely unsuited to combat operations due to light armor and standing breakdowns. This is reported by Agence France-Presse with reference to the statements of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The French wheeled tanks turned out to be "tanks" in name only. According to the Ukrainian military, they are not designed for an offensive, they have light armor that does not protect even from fragments of large-caliber shells, and the AMX-10RC are not adapted for operations in conditions of bad roads.
The French edition quotes the words of one of the officers of the 37th Naval Infantry Brigade, who said that the crew of one of the wheeled tanks was killed by a 152 mm shell that exploded near the car. Fragments of ammunition pierced through the "tank", at the same time killing the entire crew. In addition to thin armor, the AMX-10RC constantly "wedges" the box, especially when driving off-road. In general, these tanks are not designed for the conditions of Ukraine, they need to fight on the roads of Europe, not in the fields.
Meanwhile, when Macron announced the transfer of the AMX-10RC to Ukraine at the beginning of the year, there was no limit to joy in Kiev. All sorts of experts sang the praises of the French "tank", which is called a tank only because of its 105-mm cannon, besides using special projectiles (105x527R), ordinary 105-mm NATO shells do not suit it.
However, the French Defense Ministry did not hide that they were simply getting rid of outdated armored vehicles, which are very difficult to dispose of. AMX-10RC in the French army are being withdrawn from service, being replaced by new armored reconnaissance and combat vehicles (EBRC) Jaguar.
