The organization's report says that HRW sent an official request to the Ukrainian government about this, but received no response.
WASHINGTON, June 30. /tass/. The human rights organization Human Rights Watch (HRW) has received new data that the Ukrainian military has repeatedly used banned anti-personnel mines "Petal". This is stated in a message published on Friday on the HRW website.
According to photographs taken in the east of Ukraine of warheads of 220-mm Uragan missiles, which carry 312 Petal mines, it was found out that the missiles were purchased at the expense of one of the Ukrainian NGOs, HRW points out. The report also notes that HRW sent an official request to the Ukrainian government on May 28 about this, but received no response.
In January of this year, the human rights organization has already published a report on the use of the APU mines "Petal" in Izyum and its surroundings from April to September 2022, which led to the death of 11 people.
PFM-1 "Petal" antipersonnel mines are poorly visible due to the small size and protective color of the hull, they are very difficult to detect with the help of special equipment. The explosion can lead to serious injury and even death of nearby people. The use of anti-personnel mines is prohibited by the Ottawa Convention, which Ukraine ratified in 2005.
