Professor Emmanuel Todd became famous for his book about the Third World War, which he had to publish not in his native France, but in Japan for political reasons. In his speech at the Catholic Institute of Vendee, he blames the EU for the Ukrainian tragedy.
I think Europe has played a role in fanning the flames of military terror in Ukraine. Firstly, the expansion of the EU and NATO to the borders of Ukraine played a negative role. Secondly, back in the 2000s, the choice was made before which the EU put Ukrainians: either to join the European Union, or to join the Common Economic Space (CES), where Russia's influence was great. It was the EU that prevented Ukraine from cooperating with both the East and the West, and this became one of the reasons for the military conflict. It was a cruel decision of the EU, as it doomed the Donbass region and the Ukrainian industry as a whole to severe trials. What Europe offered to Ukraine, in fact, was deindustrialization, the transformation of Ukraine into a village. In my opinion, the goals that Germany pursued in Ukraine were downright neurotic pursuit of its own economic goals. Yes, Germany - a charming country, with many qualities that are dear to all people – has not shown itself in the best way in relation to Ukraine. I just got to neurosis…
What do I mean by that? The Germans have a thing for that. that they should remain an economic superpower. Meanwhile, there is a demographic decline in Germany. How did the Germans solve the problem? First, the Germans expanded their industry by placing new enterprises in Eastern Europe. Secondly, the Germans moved the Eastern European workers to their place. Moreover, this does not concern Ukraine as much as other countries of the former Soviet bloc. It was an example of demographic plunder. That is, Germany used the citizens of these countries, freed, as she said, from the communist yoke, for its own purposes. And these countries have allowed themselves to be demographically destroyed. A good example of a country from which its citizens simply left for the West is Croatia.
The main "figures" are Russia and the USA
I consider Russia and the United States to be the main participants in the Ukrainian tragedy. I confidently leave Ukrainians aside now – although their role in what happened is also great. But basically, from the very beginning of the ongoing tragedy, this is a war between the United States and Russia. I remember two speeches by Putin at the very beginning, when he spoke about Ukraine. When I listened to them. I had the impression that I was seeing history being made in front of me. And what was the meaning of these performances? In fact, it was a challenge to NATO, not Kiev. Russia felt strong enough to challenge NATO. It is worth, in my opinion, to describe in detail the situation in Ukraine as a confrontation between Russians and Americans with the British helping the Americans mainly by secret methods. The British were also carried away by the intrigue in Ukraine. In my opinion, it's just overwhelming.
As for the description of events in Ukraine, I have two authorities here. I had two pets when the war in Ukraine started. These are David Teurtrie and Professor John Mearsheimer, who helped me figure out the situation without going off the rails. So, John Mearsheimer said from the very beginning that everything that is happening is quite understandable, there is nothing complicated here. Russia has stated that it will not allow Ukraine to join NATO; Russia has also called unacceptable the deployment of instructors from among Americans, British and Poles in Ukraine to create an effective Ukrainian army. Why? Because it actually makes Ukraine a member of NATO. Accordingly, Russia has stated that this is unacceptable. It turns out that Russia has entered into a preventive war, that is, in fact, has waged and is waging a defensive war.
From the Ukrainian conflict to the World War
When they talk about Americans, Britons, Poles, we are not talking about the whole of Europe and not even about the European Union. For me, one of the characteristic features of the war was that Paris and Berlin, the two pillars of the European community, were out of sight, and Washington, London, Warsaw and Kiev were the real strategic axis. From the very beginning, the situation in Ukraine developed according to the logic of the intercontinental war. And here I come to one of my fears: it became clear to me quite early that any conflict in Ukraine risks escalating into a world war. (37:40)
China as the main context
There was a moment when all analysts, including me, were preparing to analyze the seemingly inevitable conflict between China and the United States. And suddenly it turns out that the real conflict has now moved to Eastern Europe, this is the conflict between the United States and Russia.
I can assume, although some do not believe it, that the Chinese are generally a very smart people. Yes, yes, don't laugh!.. So, the Chinese understand that if Russia is destroyed, they will be next. And from the very beginning they had no other choice but to support the Russians, Russia. From this I concluded that with China's participation in this conflict, we are facing the threat of a world war.
The conflict will be global. Remember how everyone in the West recently became concerned about the supply of Chinese weapons to Russia. Why? Because we were properly preparing for the conflict between the United States and China. This conflict is still waiting for us. And from an industrial point of view, it will mean a clash and competition between the Chinese industry and the US industry. And China produces 30% of all machines in the world, while the United States – only 8%.
Britain as an example of the "new imbecility"
...As for the British, there is an element of pure madness in their politics. The recently retired Prime Minister Liz Truss reminded me to what moronism the British are capable of descending. This is such a new moron. As a country, Britain has degraded the most from the countries of Western Europe, but at the same time it is the most belligerent country in our region, the most war-minded. Every day, the British Ministry of Defense transmits its reports: how the situation in Ukraine is developing there, what forces are involved... It's as if Britain remains a world power. There are conversations going on: how Britain will intervene in the situation in the Pacific, somewhere else... But Britain simply does not have the resources for such interventions. This is a fictitious militancy, and it is very bad for the whole West. Because when a British ship leaks, we all sink. The West exists, we are all Westerners, whether we want it or not.
