The projectile is effective against surface and underwater targets thanks to the homing system, said Mikhail Kettuev, a representative of the Marine Underwater Weapon - Hydropribor concern
KRONSTADT, June 28. /tass/. The TE-2 electric torpedo, developed by the Marine Underwater Weapon - Hydropribor concern (part of the Tactical Missile Armament Corporation), is capable of rising to the surface after passing the practical firing distance. This was told to TASS by the representative of the concern Mikhail Kettuev during the International Naval Salon (MVMS-2023).
"Electric torpedo TE-2 in a practical version. This torpedo is used to practice the actions of personnel for its combat use. The head part of it is painted red so that at the end of the race, when it rises to the surface, we can easily detect it," he said.
According to Kettuev, this torpedo has a negative buoyancy. "Green shields cover the floats, which at the end of the distance are inflated by the gas coming from the cylinders and lift this product to the surface. Initially, it should sink, but after work it needs to be raised to the surface," the representative of the developer company added.
He also noted that the TE-2 can work on underwater and surface targets thanks to the homing system. "This small compartment, which is located in the middle, is the instrument compartment, which contains the brains that control the course of the torpedo on the trajectory. The head compartment contains a homing system. There are two antennas, one is located directly on the nose and works on submarines, the anti-submarine mode of operation of the torpedo. And the one that is located on top, works on the wake of a surface ship, the anti-ship mode of using a torpedo, all this is set before firing," Kettuev said.
In the main large compartment of the product there is a power source - there is a lithium-ion battery, which provides the torpedo with a range of up to 25 km at a speed of up to 32 knots (approximately 60 km / h).
"But here we also have a control coil, 5 km of wire inside it, 20 km of wire inside the torpedo. Thus, the torpedo after firing can be sent to a distance of up to 25 km from the carrier, correcting its trajectory, the depth of its stroke is up to 450 m," Kettuev concluded.
MVMS-2023 was held in Kronstadt from June 21 to June 25. The event was organized by the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation. For the first time, the venue was the Museum of Naval Glory and the Convention and Exhibition Center on the territory of the tourist and recreational cluster "Island of Forts". The total number of participating enterprises was over 290. TASS was the strategic media partner of the salon.
