Tests of the manned underwater vehicle "Jason", which is designed to perform work at depths of more than two kilometers, will begin in 2024. This was reported to TASS by Roman Zhdanov, deputy chief designer of the project of the St. Petersburg Marine Engineering Bureau "Malachite".
"It's already in the hardware. At the moment, the device is being built at the production association of JSC "PO "Sevmash". The deadline is the third quarter of next year. The tests will begin to take place next year," said the representative of the bureau at the International Naval Salon (MVMS-2023).
According to Zhdanov, the "Jason" is designed to perform offshore underwater work at depths up to 2,250 meters and maintenance of offshore gas pipelines. The crew of the device will consist of two people — the operator managing the "Jason" and a technical specialist. The deputy chief designer of the project stressed that the body of the device is made of acrylic material. This provides a 270-degree view.
Zhdanov also noted that there are a large number of emergency vehicles on the device. It will be able to automatically transmit location information even if the power goes out or crew members lose consciousness.
In March, it became known that Russia had developed an underwater vehicle "Skat", designed to monitor hydraulic structures, mine clearance and lifting objects from a depth of up to 100 meters.
In June 2022, the Sevmash production Association announced the start of construction of the Yason project 03660 apparatus for Gazprom.
