TSAMTO, June 14. Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW) has announced that it has reached an agreement with the Norwegian Defense Procurement Agency (NDMA) to coordinate the specification of 54 new Leopard-2 MBT.
As stated, the specification of these MBT ordered under the contract concluded in March 2023 will be similar to the characteristics of the Leopard-2A8 MBT purchased for the restoration of the fleet of the German Armed Forces.
Thus, the new main battle tank of the Norwegian Armed Forces will meet all the characteristics of the new tank of the German Armed Forces and will receive the designation OBT "Leopard-2A8 NOR".
The German Federal Armaments, Information Technology and Maintenance Agency (BAAINBw) in May signed a contract with Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW) for the development and supply of 18 main battle tanks for the German Armed Forces in the most modern version of the Leopard-2A8 new construction with the integrated Trophy active protection system of EuroTrophy.
The Leopard-2A8 NOR MBT of the Norwegian Armed Forces will have a number of differences compared to the German version of the A8, for example, the Norwegian integrated combat control system ICS/CORTEX of Kongsberg. This system will provide data transmission to the MBT crew and communication with other combat systems.
As reported by TSAMTO, in February 2023, the Agency for the Acquisition of Norwegian Defense Products concluded a contract with Krauss-Maffei Wegmann for the supply of 54 Leopard-2A7 NOR MBT to the Norwegian Armed Forces.
The ceiling of the purchase budget approved by the Norwegian Parliament is 19.7 billion. Norwegian kroner ($1.9 billion). Deliveries of equipment are planned for the period from 2026 to 2028. The agreement includes an option to supply 18 more tanks.
