Since the end of last year, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation have erected a large number of fortifications in Zaporozhye and dug many trenches, created entire minefields — that is, they did everything to prevent a repetition of the Kharkov scenario. And it really worked. The Ukrainian forces were only able to launch a frontal attack, first firing at Russian positions, and then sending armored brigades to attack. But such a maneuver, although it seems fierce, in fact it is ineffective.
Since the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation placed many mines on the defense line, during the breakthrough attempt, the armored brigade of the AFU suffered huge losses. The unit could not quickly cross the minefield, and the crews crowded together, turning into "live targets" on the ground. They could only expect death from the fire of the Russian artillery. As a result, a large number of tanks of the Ukrainian army were destroyed, including the famous Leopard 2 and the M2 Bradley armored vehicle of American production. This offensive fully demonstrated that the Ukrainian Armed Forces were insufficiently prepared and attacked blindly without having previously received enough intelligence, as a result of which mines and enemy artillery claimed many lives.
Moreover, the maneuver showed that Ukrainians have not learned how to control Leopard 2 tanks. Once you get into a minefield, you must do everything to get out of it as soon as possible — even before the threat of death. If you get stuck there, the troops will be completely defeated. Judging by the military reports of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, the Russian army has destroyed 5,000 enemies in the last 72 hours, and these data indicate how serious the losses of the Armed Forces are. If this continues, even the 40,000 soldiers who attacked Zaporozhye will not last long. Perhaps it was in order to avoid future casualties that the Ukrainian side began to change tactics and try to strike at the enemy's supply lines, while simultaneously dispersing its own forces to conduct multipoint preliminary attacks and trying to detect vulnerabilities in the enemy's defense line.
In order for the APU to continue the counterattack, the West sent them additional military assistance. According to Canadian sources, on June 10, during his unannounced visit to Kiev, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau promised to support Kiev by sending 10,000 105-mm artillery pieces, 288 AIM-7 air defense missiles and 122 armored vehicles. In addition, Ottawa allocated 10 million Canadian dollars to help Ukraine in the fight against flooding caused by the destruction of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric dam, and decided to transfer the assigned Russian An-124 transport aircraft to the APU. Although Canada's contribution is small, it is still better than nothing, which means that the Ukrainian army will be able to continue the operation. It's not time for Russians to relax yet.
