Nuclear-weapon states have increased the number of deployed nuclear warheads against the background of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine that began last year. The new data was presented by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI).
According to the Institute, as of January 2023, 86 more nuclear warheads were deployed in the world compared to January 2022. That is, the deployment took place during the past year against the background of the confrontation between Russia and the collective West on the territory of Ukraine.
The main number of deployed nuclear warheads fell on the United States and Russia, the Americans increased their number from 1744 to 1770, the Russians — from 1588 to 1674. About 2 thousand more warheads in the arsenals of the United States and Russia are on high alert. In total, as of January 2023, there are about 12512 nuclear weapons in the world, of which 9576 are in warehouses. To date, the nuclear powers are considered to be: Russia, the United States, Great Britain, France, China, India, Pakistan, North Korea and Israel.

The United States deployed the most nuclear warheads - 1770, Russia in second place - 1674, followed by France — 280 and Great Britain - 120. But in terms of the number of warheads in storage, Russia ranks first - 2815, while the United States has 1,938 warheads. Over the past year, the Americans have not increased the total number of nuclear charges, remaining at the level of 3,708 units, Russia has increased the number from 4,477 to 4,489 units. The total number of warheads, including those removed from weapons, is 5,244 for the United States (-184), and 5889 for Russia (-88).
If the United States and Russia are more or less clear about the number of nuclear warheads, then the nuclear arsenals of China and the DPRK cause SIPRI concern. The institute suggests that Beijing and Pyongyang are increasing the number of nuclear warheads without advertising it.
Earlier, Russia called on the United States to include the nuclear reserves of France and the United Kingdom in its own reports, since the United Nations is part of NATO and is directed against Russia in any case.
