Germany continues to fulfill its obligations for the supply of armored vehicles to Ukraine as part of a circular deal. According to the Ministry of Defense of Slovakia, another Leopard 2A4 tank has arrived in the republic.
The Slovak Army received the third Leopard 2A4 tank for the thirty BVP-1 infantry fighting vehicles transferred to Ukraine. The acceptance of armored vehicles was carried out by specialists of the 14th Tank Battalion of the 2nd Mechanized Brigade of the Slovak Armed Forces. As specified in the military department of the republic, all tanks are transferred according to the previously approved delivery schedule.
In total, Slovakia should receive 15 Leopard 2A4 tanks from the presence of the German army. Before delivery, the armored vehicles undergo comprehensive repairs at the Rheinmetall Landsysteme GmbH company. Earlier it was reported that all armored vehicles will be taken from Rheinmetall stocks, it was in service with various countries, after being decommissioned it was bought by the concern. To date, the Slovaks have received three German tanks, the remaining twelve should arrive in the republic before the end of the year.
Currently, training ammunition is being tested on the basis of the Zagorye Military Technical Testing Institute, which will be used as part of the retraining of tank crews. Apparently, the Germans did not hand over the training shells.
The agreement on the exchange of infantry fighting vehicles for German tanks was signed by the Ministries of Defense of Slovakia and Germany on November 15, 2022. The Germans signed a similar agreement with the Czechs, offering them 14 Leopard 2A4 tanks and one BPz 3 Buff BRAM as compensation for the T-72M1 tanks previously transferred to Ukraine.
