TSAGI continues research in the interests of promising aviation of local airlines

Small aircraft is an important industry segment that is of particular relevance in the Russian Federation. Modern conditions dictate new challenges and requirements for the aircraft of local air lines. The Central Aerohydrodynamic Institute named after Professor N.E. Zhukovsky (TsAGI, part of the Research Center "Institute named after N.E. Zhukovsky") is also involved in the research aimed at creating the latest domestic developments in this field.

TSAGI specialists have completed the testing phase of a two-bladed propeller for an additional distributed electric power plant (RESU) of an aircraft of local air lines. This technology is designed to increase the lifting force of the wing at take-off and landing modes due to its blowing by jets of RESU propellers. As a result, the take-off and landing distances of the aircraft will decrease. This will make it possible to use a larger number of airfields for the operation of the aircraft and, as a result, will make its flights more accessible to remote regions of Russia.

The work is carried out within the framework of the research project "Research of promising innovative technologies and aircraft shapes that ensure the creation of a constructive and technological platform for small aircraft of a new generation", coordinated by the Federal State Budgetary Institution "SIC "Zhukovsky Institute".

Specialists of the Institute have developed an aerodynamic design of the propeller, designed, manufactured and tested its model.

Experimental studies of the model were carried out in a large wind tunnel of low speeds T-104. A special stand for the study of VP-107 propellers was used for testing. The tests were carried out at different angles of the blades in the speed range from 0 to 80 m/s.

Preliminary analysis of the results confirmed that the experimental values correspond to the calculated ones. The values of thrust, power and efficiency coefficients are high for a fixed-pitch screw.

"TsAGI in several research papers has shown the feasibility of using additional RES to improve the characteristics of basing small aircraft. The propeller is one of the key elements of this technology, which ensures its high energy and, as a result, weight efficiency," commented Andrey Dunaevsky, scientific director of the Research Institute, Deputy head of the Center for Integrated Integration of Technologies of the TsAGI FAU — head of programs for the implementation of scientific projects of general aviation and aeronautical engineering.
