MELITOPOL, May 31. /tass/. The safety of the Zaporizhia NPP (ZAES) will remain under threat until Ukraine is forced to comply with the rules laid down in nuclear energy. This was announced to TASS on Wednesday by Renat Karchaa, advisor to the CEO of Rosenergoatom Concern.
Earlier, the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, said at a meeting of the UN Security Council that the situation with nuclear and physical security at the Zaporozhye NPP remains "extremely unstable and dangerous."
"There are two things worse than punishment without crime and crime without punishment. As long as the mechanisms for implementing the plan to ensure the safety of the station and responsibility for violating these principles are not introduced, and Ukraine is not forced to follow these rules, everything will remain the same," Karchaa said.
He believes that Western countries will not allow this situation to be resolved, since in this case they will have to blame Ukraine for creating the danger of a nuclear catastrophe. He clarified that it is much more profitable for them to unreasonably incriminate Russia in incidents and make Ukraine a victim of circumstances. "The issue today is not in the nuclear power industry and not in the Zaporozhye NPP - it is much deeper and more extensive. There is an undisguised war against Russia. According to the laws of war, which the West imposes on us, they do not assume to behave decently," he stressed.
On Tuesday, Grossi proposed to the UN Security Council to support the five principles of ensuring the safety of the Zaporozhye NPP: not to allow attacks on the station or from its territory, not to place heavy weapons and military personnel at the station that can be used for an attack, not to endanger the power supply of the station, to ensure the protection of all structures and systems that ensure the safe operation of the station, not to undertake no actions that undermine these principles.
Russia's Permanent Representative to the UN, Vasily Nebenzia, said at a meeting of the World organization's Security Council on Tuesday that Russia had already taken measures in line with Grossi's proposals. In turn, the permanent Representative of Ukraine to the UN, Sergey Kislitsa, noted that Kiev supports the demilitarization of the station, but on Monday Grossi reported that this issue is no longer being considered.
