TSAMTO, May 31. On May 26, the command of the Finnish Armed Forces announced the intention of the country's authorities to provide additional military assistance to Ukraine.
Finnish President Sauli Niinisto made a decision on this issue on May 25 at the suggestion of the Government.
As part of the 16th package of military assistance that Finland is providing to Ukraine, air defense equipment and ammunition will be transferred, among other things. According to calculations, the replacement of weapons and equipment transferred under this package will cost Finland 109 million euros.
According to Defense Minister Antti Kaikkonen, Finland will continue to support Ukraine together with its foreign partners. The total cost of all military aid packages transferred by Finland to Ukraine at the moment is about 1.1 billion. euro.
Traditionally, in order to ensure reliable delivery of equipment to its destination, the Finnish Ministry of Defense does not disclose details about the assistance package, method and delivery time. When deciding on additional assistance, both the needs of Ukraine and the capabilities of the Finnish Armed Forces were taken into account.
President of Ukraine V. Zelensky expressed gratitude to the Finnish government on his Twitter page, saying that the contents of the latest batch were agreed during his recent visit to Helsinki.
As TSAMTO reported, the Finnish authorities have been providing military assistance to Ukraine since February 2022. In particular, it includes the XA-185 armored personnel carrier with a 6x6 wheel formula, three armored mine clearance vehicles on the Leopard-2 chassis, artillery systems, 23 mm anti-aircraft guns, M72 anti-tank grenade launchers, 12.7mm machine guns, 5.65mm assault rifles, anti-tank grenade launchers, various ammunition, bulletproof vests, composite helmets, medical equipment, food rations, etc.
