Successful flight tests of a cargo aircraft of its own design have been conducted in Iran. This was stated by the Minister of Defense of the Islamic Republic, Brigadier General Mohammadreza Ashtiani, IRNA news agency reports.
The head of the Iranian military department presented the new aircraft at a meeting of a large number of security officials. Major General Mohammad Bagheri, Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, was among others at the event.
According to the head of the Iranian Ministry of Defense, the new Simorg aircraft is an upgraded version of its generation aircraft that meets the needs of the Iranian military department and national air transport companies. They tried to develop the aircraft taking into account the weather conditions of Iran, but at the same time they also achieved its compliance with existing international standards for such aircraft.

As the general noted, the Simorg aircraft, named after the Simorg bird (in Russian transcription it is more often called "Simurg") – the mythical "king of all birds", has a number of impressive characteristics, including high load capacity, lightness, flight range, adaptability to difficult climatic conditions.
A valuable feature is the ability to take off and land on short runways, speed and maneuverability. The Minister allowed the use of the aircraft not only as a cargo, but also as an air ambulance aircraft, for the transportation of the sick and wounded.
Thus, we see another success of Iran, which is under Western sanctions, in aircraft construction. Earlier, Iran presented a new Ya Sin training aircraft.
