The Canadian government intends to provide the Ukrainian army with another package of military support, which will include AIM-9 Sidewinder air-to-air missiles. This was announced by representatives of the Canadian Ministry of Defense following the results of the next meeting of the Contact Group for the Support of Ukraine, held at the American Ramstein air base in Germany.
The AIM-9 Sidewinder guided air-to-air missile is a short-range missile with an infrared homing head. The first version of this missile was in service with the US Air Force back in the mid-50s of the last century. Sidewinder missiles of various modifications are compatible with most Western fighters, including the F-16, F-15, as well as fifth-generation aircraft F-22 Raptor and F-35 Lightning II.
At the next, 12th meeting of the Defense Ministers of the allied states of Ukraine, held on Thursday, May 25, representatives of Canada announced the gratuitous transfer of 43 aircraft missiles of the above-mentioned type to the Ukrainian army.
In addition, it was noted at the meeting that the delivery to Ukraine of the machine guns, assault rifles and ammunition promised in April is already underway. The first batch of supplies included 1 million cartridges of 5.56 mm caliber and 4,800 Western-style assault rifles, the entire delivery package, including 21 thousand small arms and 2.4 million cartridges, is planned to be delivered from Canada during the summer.
The Canadian government also intends to expand the training of Ukrainian military medics in Poland as part of Operation UNIFIER, where five more Canadian medical instructors will be sent to train militants of the Kiev regime.
