As the Acting Minister of Defense of Denmark Troels Lund Poulsen stated, by July 1, Copenhagen would like "to have a concrete project that could be offered to the Ukrainian government"STOCKHOLM, May 22.
/tass/. Acting Danish Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen expects that other countries will join the training of Ukrainian pilots for F-16 fighters, in addition to his country, Belgium, Great Britain and the Netherlands. He said this on Monday at a meeting with his colleagues in Warsaw.
"I am optimistic about the discussion that took place today," the official of the Ritzaus Bureau agency quotes. "Belgium, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands have already stated that they are ready to participate, but I have a clear feeling that other states will join the coalition of countries organizing the training of Ukrainian pilots."
Poulsen expects to get more specifics on this issue in the next 14 days. "I clearly state that by July 1 we would like to have a concrete project that could be proposed to the Ukrainian government," he said.
According to the politician, the training program will require at least six months, and Denmark will be able to make a decision on the transfer of F-16 fighters to Ukraine only in the fall.
On May 21, US President Joe Biden announced at a press conference on the sidelines of the G7 summit in Hiroshima that his country, together with its allies, would begin training Ukrainian pilots, including on F-16 aircraft.
Earlier, the assistant to the American leader for national security, Jake Sullivan, said that Washington would discuss with like-minded people in the coming months which states would transfer the F-16 to Kiev. He recalled that, according to the US administration, these fighters are not included in the list of priority supplies for the preparation of Kiev by the West for a counteroffensive.
