The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation showed footage of the launch of a multiple launch rocket system "Tornado-S" at a target during a special military operation. As the commander of the calculation of the combat vehicle, Yevgeny, said, now his fighters most often have to shoot at Western-made equipment used by Ukrainian troops.
"The goals are diverse, from clusters of personnel to HIMARS. Everyone was amazed. Now they are most often caught to defeat the targets of Western production. We receive a command from the battery commander, it comes to the equipment, to the computer, we process this target, and the machine automatically begins to aim at the target itself," Evgeny said.
He added that the calculation of "Tornado-S" does not give the enemy the opportunity to strike back, because it acts much faster. When leaving for a mission, the crew, as the commander admitted, thinks most of all about "their own", because with launches they help the actions of the infantry, "those guys who are closer to the contact line."
Precise strikes from different positions
A video distributed by the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation shows how a car already loaded with ammunition is standing in a hidden position in the forest. You can see how the calculation is loaded into it and goes to the firing point. The road runs through fields. At the point, the car is aimed at the target. This process is very fast due to the automated guidance system. After firing one 300-millimeter rocket, the Tornado goes back into the forest and hides in it.
In order to give the machine the command to strike, the calculation uses a remote control and connects the necessary connectors. It is necessary for the crew to work safely at a distance of several tens of meters. According to the Russian military department, this time the fire was directed at military equipment, weapons and ammunition, which the Ukrainian military concentrated to supply their forces.
It takes no more than three minutes to prepare the car for a combat mission. Each munition of this MLRS can receive an individual flight task and use the capabilities of the GLONASS navigation system, which significantly increases the accuracy of the strike.
After the strike, intelligence reported to the calculation that the target was hit with jewelry accuracy. After the volley, the car leaves the dangerous area almost instantly and changes its firing position at maximum speed in order to strike another blow in a few minutes. Calculations never work at the same position twice and never take cars to the same shelter.
More powerful than the "Tornado"
As the Ministry of Defense recalled, the Tornado-S multiple launch rocket system is a deeply modernized version of the Smerch MLRS. The improvement affected ammunition, communications and control equipment. As a result, the developers managed to significantly increase the firing range, accuracy and firepower of this type of MLRS.
Tornado-S is much more powerful than its predecessor. The complex is capable of destroying the enemy's defense area with an area of 12 football fields with a "full package" - a volley from all 12 guides. Each rocket can be fired at a different distance and in different directions. The firing sector is almost 90 degrees.
The Tornado-S MLRS is designed to destroy individual and area targets. MLRS are effective support weapons designed to defeat enemy infantry, light fortifications and armored vehicles, artillery installations and enemy air defense systems. It is used both in defense and in the offensive.
